Robert Frank Harris Sr. (Bobby) was born September 10, 1950 to the late Marie and Robert Jenkins. After his mother ‘s death at the age of 2 years old, he was adopted and raised by his aunt and uncle, Iristine and Obediah Harris.
Robert confessed his belief in Christ at an early age. He was a member of First African Missionary Baptist Church until about six years ago when he relocated to Savannah to receive better medical care and employment opportunities. While at First African Missionary Baptist Church he served on the Deacon Board and he sang in the Senior Choir. He was a committed choir member.
Robert attended Appling County Consolidated High School where he graduated in 1968. In high school he was a member of chorus, the track team and football team.
Robert was drafted into the United States Army after graduating from his high school. He served in the Army and afterward returned to Baxley, he began seeking employment. He Received training in the military that propelled him to excel in computer operation and leadership skills. He worked at a number of prestigious companies, including ITT Rayonier of Baxley and Jesup and Dixie Crystal Refinery of Savannah.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his devoted wife, Sis. Shirley Hudson-Harris of Savannah, one daughter, Meya H. Jones of Savannah, two sons, Demarco Harris (Synovia) of Atlanta and Robert Harris Jr. of Atlanta, nine grandchildren, Miles Jones, Madison Jones, Marco Redfield, Star Harris, Demi Harris, Kaitlyn Harris, JaDon Harris, Marquis Harris, Christorian Harris, one sister, Sis. Gloria Seed of Norwalk, Connecticut, three brothers, Adolph Copland of Miami, Florida, Elder Melvin Copeland of Daytona, Florida, Alvin Jean Formey of Adairsville, a former mother-in-law, Sis. Elizabeth Simmons of Baxley, sister-in-laws, Essie Copeland of Delaware, Annette Thomas of Baxley, Elder Lillian Brooks of Atlanta, Annie Grace Hudson of Fayetteville, North Carolina, three brother-in-laws, Early Hudson of Baxley, Henry Hudson Jr. (Shirley) of Atlanta, Harold Hudson of Buffalo, New York, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 2 at 12:00 P.M. at First African Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. J. M. Blair and Elder Lillian Hudson-Brooks presiding. Interment followed at Old Field Memorial Gardens.
Music Selections were by Minister of Music and Choir.
Active Pallbearers were Bradford Allen, Shelton Williams, Marquis Harris, and JaDon Harris.
Honorary Pallbearers were Appling County Consolidated High School Class of 1968.
Professional Services were entrusted to Baxley Funeral Home.
