GA to the now late Mr. Moses Smith and Mrs. Sallie Richardson.
In 1958, Mary met and married Mr. Isaac Wade Davis, Jr. This
union was blessed with four (4) children.
Mother Davis was educated in the Appling County School Systems.
Prior to become a homemaker, she was employed at Ms. Nicks and
later at Ship & Shore. She was known for her culinary arts skills.
Mrs. Davis accepted Christ at an early age. A devoted member of Greater Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C.,
Mother Davis served as a Cook, Sunday School Teacher, Evangelist, Member of the Mothers
Board, Trustee Board, and Pastor Aide Board. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23 read by Pastor
J. M. Blair.
On August 25, 2017, the Lord called Mother Davis home to rest from all of her labors.
Mother Davis leaves to cherish her memories: one (1) daughter and dedicated caregiver, Patricia
(Terry) Goss of Hazlehurst, GA; three (3) sons, Gary Smith of Baxley, GA, Boyd (Jackie —
dedicated caregiver) Davis of Baxley, GA and Wade Davis of Lumber City, GA; one (1) brother,
Ben (Hester) Smith of Baxley, GA; seventeen (17) Grandchildren; forty-five (45) Great
Grandchildren; and, a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.
Mother Davis was preceded in death by: her husband, Isaac Wade Davis, Jr; and, five (5) siblings,
Louella McTier, Clyde Smith, Freddie Smith, Walter Smith, and Joe Smith.
Funeral services were held at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. with Elder Norris Williams, Sr. serving as the pastor and officiant. Internment followed in the Old Field Memorial Gardens in Baxley. Repast was held in the Greater Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. Social Hall. Active pallbearers were Arrick Jackson, Jarharis Jones, Jimmy Noble, Robert Richburg, and Terry Williams. Musical selections were rendered by Greater Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. Choir and Tammy Richburg. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Baxley Funeral Home.
