Baxley Funeral Home announces the death of Apostle Marvin Sumner of Jesup, Georgia who departed this life on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
Due to the COVID19 pandemic the family will have a private graveside service.
Apostle Marvin Sumner was born May 28, 1947 to Benjamin & Lillie Mae Sumner in Toombs County (Lyons), Georgia. He departed this life on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.
He graduated from Appling County Consolidated High School. He worked as a Foreman, Supervisor at Plant Hatch in Baxley, Georgia and retired after 30 years.
Apostle Sumner along with his brother-in-law, Superintendent James Frank Carter founded Miracle Temple COGIC in the late 1970's which produced a foundation that has numerous successful ministries and ministers to this present day.
Apostle Sumner was a man of prayer, he loved people and would help anyone he could.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael & Greg Sumner; two sisters, Emily Sumner & Lind Sumner; one brother, Benjamin Sumner.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Pamela Diane Sumner of Baxley, GA, two sons, Kevin Lamar Sumner of Baxley, GA and Marvin Hankerson, Sr. of Macon, GA.Two handsome grandsons; Marvin Hankerson, Jr. and Jahmarie Hankerson. Two Sisters: Annie Pearl (Lonnie) Zinnamon of Baxley, GA and Carrie (Theodore) Stevens of Ohio. Former wife and mother of their children, Mamie Sumner Armstrong of Baxley, GA.Two Special God Daughters: Linda Campbell Roberts of Columbia, SC and Nancy Rooks Veale of Jesup, GA. and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
